Cruise Terminal 1 – Cruise Mooring Bollards
Timescale
Nov 23 – Mar 24
Value
£650,000
Client
Port of Dover
Introduction
This project was undertaken at the Western Docks at the Port of Dover and was driven by safety and operational factors.
The Port carried out a review of the adequacy of mooring bollards at Cruise Terminal 1 (CT1) using mooring analysis software to identify additional and replacement bollards required to ensure the berth could safely accommodate vessels up to 265m.
Following the mooring analysis, it was necessary to design and install additional cope bollards along the cope line of CT1 to provide a greater number of bollards for vessels to use as well as removing existing low-capacity bollards.
The Project
The works included mooring analysis & design, removal of 8nr existing mooring bollards (30-60t), breakout granite capping beam in locations of 3nr new bollards, install grouted anchors into CT1 quay wall, install the reinforcement for bollard foundations and pour new concrete foundations, and installation of 3nr new 75t mooring bollards and surrounding high friction surfacing.
The works were procured via the Port’s existing NEC3 contractor framework, utilising an ECC form of contract. Moreton & Partners led the procurement and commercial activities to support Port of Dover’s engineering team to deliver this key project.
